The "2021 International Symposium on New Materials and Advanced Forming Technology", jointly hosted by the Hunan University of Humanities, Science and Technology (HUHST) and the Hunan university of Arts and Science (HUAS), was successfully held in our university from 15 to 17 October.The conference was attended by well-known experts from Canada, Australia,Tunisia and other countries, leading figures, experts and scholars from majoruniversities, research institutes and enterprises in China who are engaged inresearch in fields related to new materials and advanced forming technology.Academician Huang Boyun served as the honorary chairman of the conference;Professor Chen Zhiguo, the leader of the "double first-class"discipline of materials science and engineering in Hunan Province, served asthe chairman of the organizing committee; Professor Zhou Kezhao, director ofthe National Key Laboratory of Powder Metallurgy and vice president of CentralSouth University, served as the director of the academic committee of the conference.

     In the morning of 16th, the opening ceremony of theInternational Symposium on New Materials and Advanced Forming Technology washeld in the lecture hall of Jiangcheng Building. Chen Zhiguo, Vice President ofHUHST, presided over the event. Fu Aijun, Vice Chairman of Hunan Science and Technology Association, Liu Heyun, Chairperson of the University Consil of HUHST, Zhou Kezhao, Vice President of Central South University, Yong Qilong,Chief Engineer of General Iron and Steel Institute, Li Hongge, Vice Presidentof HUAS, Li Yun, director of Research and Publicity Department of Hunan Scienceand Technology Association, Xiao Jing, vice chairman of Loudi Science andTechnology Association, Zhang Zhiming, the first-level chief officer of the Research and Publicity Department of Hunan Science and Technology Association,attended the meeting. Academician Huang Boyun, honorary chairman of theconference, sent a congratulatory letter.

At the opening ceremony, Fu Aijun briefly introduced the basicsituation of the “HOME Program”(Help OurMotherland through Elite Intellectual Resources from Overseas)and affirmed the efforts made by HUHST and HUAS to implement the strategies ofdeveloping China through science and education and strengthening the countrythrough human resource development and efforts to promote academic exchangesand cooperation at home and abroad.

Liu Heyun delivered a welcome speech as the representativeof the organizer and introduced the basic situation of HUHST from the aspectsof history, teaching and research, talent cultivation, etc., as well as theprogress of the construction of the "double first-class" disciplineof materials science and engineering in Hunan Province.

Vice president of HUAS Li Hongge also addressed the conference.

The conference was held for two days, and scholars from home andabroad exchanged their latest achievements and research progress on newmetallic materials, fine ceramics, new energy materials, advanced compositematerials, advanced forming and repair and remanufacturing technologies, etc.

The conference was guided by the Hunan Provincial Science and Technology Association and organized by the "Double First-class"Department of Materials Science and Engineering of Hunan Province, the Key Laboratory of Fine Ceramics and Powder Materials of Hunan Province and the KeyL aboratory of Functional Materials for Water Treatment of Hunan Province, withthe support of the State Key Laboratory of Powder Metallurgy.

The success of this conference has further enhanced the influence of HUHST, and is of great significance to the construction and development of the “double first-class” disciplines.
